SEPTEMBER 27TH AT THE RAVARI ROOM
So when I was 19 I had a ticket in my hand to go to the Newport to see Helmet, Quicksand and Orange 9mm. I was hanging out at Insomnia, next door, before the show like I usually did when I saw several guys from each band standing around talking about where they should go to get something to eat. They were discussing the option of Mexican food and I jumped in to suggest Strada on King Avenue. I even offered to show them how to get there and they offered to buy my dinner. And that is the story of the first time I set eyes on Page Hamilton in person. The show was, of course, amazing, still in my memory as one of my favorie shows of all time.
Jump forward 12 long years and I find myself again holding a ticket to see Helmet, still one of the bands holding on in my life. MEANTIME specifically so full of memories for me. So now I'm 31 and I still have a really dorky crush on Page Hamilton. Does it help that he sounds as amazing if not better with the help of his new back up crew? Of course it does. Wait, no more gushing.
They brutalized that stage and the crowd. No one left unsatisfied (except for the guy I ditched 20 minutes into our "date" for being a psycho dickhead). Page and the guys even gave us a taste of "Just Another Victim" from the Judgement Night soundtrack including his own spoken word version of a couple of Everlast's lines just for kicks. I went to the show in heels cause I wasn't feeling well (with a fever of about 101) and figured I should at least look pretty...well, about two seconds into their set, the shoes came off and I went straight to the front. The first show I have been to in a LONG time that was actually worth the ticket price. THANK YOU HELMET!!!!
